WORCESTER - The Lincoln W. Stoddard U.S. Army Reserve Center, the federal building where a break-in led to a loss of weapons over the weekend, was a quiet scene Monday morning as a few people trickled in and out of the facility, which is heavily guarded and surrounded by a barbed-wire fence.
The FBI and Worcester police are continuing the search for the weapons.
FBI Boston spokesman Kristen M. Setera said there is no "indication" of a terrorist threat "whatsoever" in this case.
In a written statement Sunday, Ms. Setera said the missing weapons were entered into the National Crime Information Center, a database which will alert law enforcement at the federal, state and local level to the missing federal equipment.
Authorities have not detailed the types of weapons that are missing. They were discovered missing Sunday morning. Media is reporting that six M4 rifles and 10 M11 handguns were stolen.
"The FBI is aware that some weapons are missing as a result of the break-in at the Army Reserve Center in Worcester," Setera said. "We have entered those weapons into NCIC, a national database and alerted our federal, state and local law enforcement partners."
Ms. Setera said the FBI is working with other agencies. Sunday, as darkness fell, two vehicles were parked at the Shaw Building on the UMass Memorial Medical Center's University Campus and investigators examined the hillside between that building and the armory, taking photographs. The crew declined to identify themselves to a reporter and went to the armory when they left.
The federal building is bordered by a state Department of Transportation facility near the Shrewsbury line close to Route 9 as well as UMass Memorial Medical Center - University Campus buildings. Family Horizons, a daycare center, abuts the reserve facility as well, and is right next to the hillside where investigators were searching last night.
